Two workers killed in freak accident at cement factory in Suryapet

Mellacheruvu (Suryapet): Two workers were killed in an accident that took place at My Home cement industries located at Mellacheruvu in Suryapet district on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Thota Laxminarayana (45) of Raghunathapalem of Mattampally mandal and Bade Saheb (43) of Vepala Madaram of Mellacheruvu mandal in the district.

According to sources, workers Laxminarayana, Bade Saheb and Venkat Reddy were making repairs to a hopper mill through which both concrete and red soil would be sent for the production of cement. While the trio was engaged in the work, all of a sudden, someone released the red soil, and the duo breathed their last under the heap of the soil. Another worker Venkat Reddy, who was injured in the incident, was shifted to a private hospital in Kodad.

According to reliable sources, the incident took place due to lack of communication. Meanwhile, the management of industry did not disclose any information pertaining to the incident, and the media was also not allowed to cover the accident.

Few coworkers of the deceased on condition of anonymity expressed their concern over the incident. They criticised the factory management for the safety and security lapses and demanded justice to the family members of victims.
