Vaccination drive to contain FMD in cattle launched in Nagarkurnool
Nagarkurnool: With an aim to eradicate foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in domestic animals, the Veterinary department officials of Kalwakurthy mandal in Nagarkurnool district have embarked on a free vaccination drive to cattle on Friday. As part of the programme, Kalwakurthy MLA Jaipal Yadav took part in the programme and inaugurated the vaccination programme at Seelarupally village under Kalwakurthy municipality limits.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that the government was providing free medicines to e cattle through its veterinary dispensaries across the district. He urged the farmers to take advantage of this drive and administer their cattle and other domesticated livestock with the medicines and protect them. "The State government through the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary departments has taken up a proactive initiative to eradicate FMD diseases in cattle. For spreading awareness about this, we have urged the Veterinary department officials to take up the awareness programmes in villages and distribute medicine to cattle rearers for free," said Jaipal Yadav.
Revealing more about FMD, the veterinary doctors said it was a severe and highly contagious viral disease and the cattle gets easily infected with it. The disease spreads very quickly if not controlled, they said.
