Warangal: A delegation of senior officials from Varanasi Municipal Corporation arrived in Warangal city on Thursday, on a study tour on 'Leadership Development for Good Governance and Service Delivery.'

The team visited the Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) located at Ammavaripet as part of their study. It may be mentioned here that the FSTP was set up by GWMC in association with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation with Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad, as its knowledge partner, through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The ASCI officials explained about the 15-KLD (kilo litres a day) FSTP based on thermal process, a system that pyrolysis (decompose organic material at high temperatures without oxygen) human solid waste into biochar. The visiting team was also explained about another process, geotube. The 10-KLD geotube uses geo bags (non-mechanical technology) to dry the faecal sludge.

The faecal sludge transferred to tubes/bags from the tankers is allowed for the filtration and thereby dewatering. Later, the effluent from geo bags is collected and sent for treatment.

Later, the team visited sewerage treatment plant (STP) established near Ambedkar Nagar and the sensor-based monitoring of the public toilet set up at Waddepally under the aegis of Pune-based Smart Loo Solutions. Varanasi Additional Municipal Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh and others present.
