Village elder booked under SC/ST atrocities act for thrashing couple in Anantapur

A village elder was booked under SC/ST atrocities act for thrashing a minor girl. The 70-year-old Boya Lingappa thrashed the girl and her cousin Sai Kiran for falling in love and tried to elope.

The duo was pulled up at the Panchayat and thrashed in front of the villagers for bringing a bad name to their families and the village. The incident occurred at KP Dhoddi village of Gummagutta mandal of Anantapur district.

Soon after a video of the incident has gone viral on all the social media handles, the DSP Venakaramana, CI Raju and Tahsildar Venkata Chalapati have inquired the incident. They registered SC/ST atrocities case against the village elder and POCSO act against Sai Kiran for eloping the minor girl.

The police also said that cases will be registered on the villagers at the panchayat who rather watched it like spectators but not attempted to save the couple.
