Village in Siddipet flooded after Kondapochamma canal breach
Shivaru Venkatapur village of Markook Mandal in Siddipet flooded with Godavari water after Kondapochamma Sagar canal breached on Tuesday morning. The houses and farms in the village were flooded. A house in the village collapsed after the water entered into it.
No casualties have been reported as the water entered the village in the wee hours on Tuesday, local residents said. The incident has occurred a half-a-kilometre distance from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's farmhouse.
Irrigation Department officials swung into action to plug the breach and are also examining how the canal suffered a breach.
The state government has constructed the Kondapochamma Sagar canal to provide Godavari water to the people in Bhongir. It is learned that the officials released the water to the lakes through the canal. However, the villagers alleged the incident took place due to the negligence of the officials and contractors.
