Kothagudem: Seven villagers who got stranded on an island near Kinnerasani River at Burgampahad have been rescued along with their cattle on Monday. According to the reports, the villagers went into the river to transport sand on their bullock carts. But as the water level increased due to flow from Kinnerasani project during morning hours they took shelter at the island and stayed there.

At that time there were many women on the riverbed washing clothes but as the water level increased, they ran onto the riverbanks. The villagers complained that officials did not give any prior information regarding release of water during morning hours.

On receiving the information, Paloncha Inspector of Police Madatha Ramesh spoke to Kinnerasani project officials urging them to stop the release of water. According to the villagers, the locals usually cross the river when the water was low to transport sand from the riverbed. After the water receded, the stranded villagers were rescued by police and locals.
