Visually impaired Telangana man cracks civils in first attempt

A visually impaired man from Adilabad district in Telangana cracked the Civil Services in the first attempt by getting an All India ranking of 773.

Podduturi Suchenthan Reddy, the 26-year-old is learned to have prepared for the exam by using a specially designed screen reading software which is meant for the blind and also listened audio classes on his laptop with the help of Job Access with Speech software.

Suchenthan lost his vision when he was three years old due to a reaction of some drug, says his father Narayana Reddy who is a teacher at Zilla Parishad High School in Kowta village of Jainath mandal. Suchentan's mother Rajani too played an important role in his success, who is also a government teacher.

He did his schooling at Devnar Foundation's blind school in Hyderabad, intermediate from Aurobindo junior college and graduation from Delhi University. He did his Masters in Political Science and MPhil from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Currently, he is pursuing PhD from JNU.

However, Suchenthan father says that he will again appear for the Civils as the former's dream is to be an IAS officer adding that his current rank qualifies him as an Indian Revenue Service officer.
