Wanaparthy: As many as 211 beneficiaries received the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak cheques from the hands of Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy on the Tahsildar office premises in Wanaparthy district on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister reiterated that the Telangana government was committed for the welfare and uplift of poor in the State. Particularly, the poor families, such as farmers, artisans, peasants and labourers were facing a lot of financial problems and were debt-ridden for conducting marriages of their daughters. Many had even sold their houses, land and taken debts for conducting marriages. There are instances where some people had even committed suicide as they could not repay the loans they had taken to conduct their daughters' marriages.

"Our Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had understood the problems of the poor and as many lakhs of poor farmers and families were finding it difficult to marry off their daughters due to financial problems, the CM launched the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes and providing them Rs 1 lakh as financial aid to perform the marriages. Except Telangana state, nowhere in the country such a scheme exists. Not just this, there are a host of other welfare schemes like Ammavodi, KCR Kits, Rythu Bhandu, Rythu Bima, Aasara pensions and others. Today people are supporting us in each and every election because of our welfare programmes and development initiatives," said the Minister.

Of the 211 beneficiaries, 174 belong to Backward Classes, 21 to Scheduled Tribes and 16 to minority category. Later, the Minister had lunch with the beneficiaries and urged them to make the best utilisation of the schemes and programmes of the government.

Zilla Parishad chairman Loknath Reddy, District Library Association president Laxmaiah, Municipal chairperson Gattu Yadav and others took part in the programme.
