Wanaparthy: Paddy procurement now at farmers fields

Wanaparthy: With an aim to provide more accessibility and easy marketing for the poor farmers, Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy launched paddy procurement directly at the farmers' fields on Friday.

Speaking on occasion, the Minister said that the main objective of this initiative was to open procure paddy at the doorsteps of farmers and to contain the menace of middlemen who dupe the gullible farmers.

"Our government is a farmer-friendly government. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao wants the produce of farmers not to be taken away by the brokers and middlemen. So, we have decided to procure paddy right at the farmers' fields. This will help the farmers get easy access to market their produce and at the same time get Minimum Support Price for the yield. The farmer would also be saved from the cost of transportation and other market-related expenses," said the Minister.

The Agriculture Minister further added that all the crops were procured by the State government as per the MSP set by the Central government. He expressed happiness over farmers getting good yields due to timely ample rains.

The Minister also advised the farmers to adopt all the procedures and ensure that the crop has lowest moisture content so that they can get better price for their produce.

The Minister also cautioned the procurement agencies to ensure they install good weighing machines without any errors and directed them to transport the procured grains to the respective warehouses on a day-to-day basis.

Later, Singireddy also inaugurated paddy procurement centres at Peddagudem, Chinnaguntapally and Solipur villages of Wanaparthy district.
