Warangal: In a bid to educate people about the pandemic coronavirus (Covid-19), the Women Development and Child Welfare (WDCW) on Thursday organised an awareness programme at the SC Colony in Wardhannapet of Warangal Rural District. It may be mentioned here that following the directions of Warangal Rural District Collector M Haritha, the WDCW was organising awareness programmes to spread the importance of hygienic practice among the children, pregnant and lactating mothers.

Addressing the gathering, District Welfare Officer (DWO) K Chinnaiah appealed to the people to focus on hygienic practices to protect themselves from the Covid-19 and other contagious diseases. He emphasised the need for educating people about regular hand washing to prevent coronavirus transmission. He also advised the people to contact the doctors immediately if they suffer from cold, cough, fever and breathing problems.

He directed the Anganwadi staff to ensure children, pregnant and lactating mothers wash their hands before and after meals, besides teaching them the necessity of adopting hygienic practices. The staff was also told to keep their premises clean. The DWO told the Anganwadi staff to focus more on pregnant and lactating mothers as they are likely to be susceptible to the pandemic. "If the children, pregnant and lactating mothers develop any symptoms of Covid-19, they need to be taken to the nearest hospital," Chinnaiah said.

The staff demonstrated how to wash hands cleanly on the occasion. District Child Protection Officer G Mahender Reddy, CDPOs V Padma, Kala Kumari, Anganwadi teacher Premalatha

and councillor Ravinder were among others present.
