Warangal: Call to provide better facilities to orphan children
Warangal: Even though parental engagement is one of the most important factors in development of a child, socioeconomic conditions also play a vital role, Child Welfare Committee chairman Mandala Parashuramulu said. Speaking at a meeting that focused on 'Development of Orphans – Social Responsibility' organised by Abhyudaya Seva Samithi at Children Home in Auto Nagar here on Monday, he dwelt at length about the maladies that have impact on child development.
"The impact of economic disparity is one of the major reasons that have its impression on children's development. The strained relationship between wife and husband does have effect on children's long-term mental health and development," he said. Referring to the poverty, he said that many children who become orphans are abandoned by parents as they lack resources to care for their wards.
He said that the onus is on Central and State Governments to rescue these children and provide them better facilities to live upright. He stressed the need for according more funds for the development of orphan children. NGOs and other organisations working for progressive society should come forward to help the orphan children, Parashuramulu said.
Responsive parenting inculcates cognitive and social skills, the CWC member said, appealing to people to adopt progressive approach in fostering their wards. He stressed the need for parents playing an important role in promoting gender equality and building children's resilience to rigid gender stereotypes.
Stating that the responsibility is on every citizen to protect the rights of children, Parashuramulu urged the Police, Education, Labour and Medical departments to keep a tab on societal maladies. Children Home in-charge superintendent A Ramana Murthy, Rajender, Sharada, Prashanth Reddy, Srinivas Raju, Jayaprakash, Ranjith and Vinay were among others present.
