Warangal: Couple fleeing quarantine caught at Kazipet Railway station

Kazipet (Warangal-U): A couple who allegedly escaped from the mandatory quarantine was de-boarded from a Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express train in Kazipet on Saturday.

The co-passengers who identified a home quarantine seal on the hands of the couple informed the Railway officials.

The couple landed in the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) from Indonesia on Friday morning. Following the thermal screening test in the wake of novel coronavirus scare at the airport, the authorities advised the couple for 14-day quarantine.

The date mentioned on the seal showed April 5, 2020. The Ranga Reddy District Medical and Health officials shifted the couple to a quarantine ward.

The Uttar Pradesh-based couple who gave a skip to the officials reached Secunderabad Railway Station where they boarded the Bengaluru-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express train on Saturday morning.

The co-passengers on the B-3 compartment who stumbled upon the quarantine seal while one of them was washing hands. Then they informed about it to the TTE onboard who in turn alerted his higher ups.

Following which a team of health officials and police swung into action when the train was stopped at Kazipet.

The couple was told to wear hazmat suit before shifting them to the isolation ward in MGM Hospital.

The co-passengers were accommodated in the other coaches and the entire B-3 compartment was sanitised and it was also locked, the, Government Railway Police (GRP) Kazipet Inspector V ViNay Kumar said.

Later in the day, the MGM Hospital authorities shifted the couple to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad in an ambulance. It's learnt that the couple opted to get treatment in Gandhi Hospital.

In another case of suspected Covid-19, a 62-year-old pastor working in a church at Oorugonda village under Damera mandal in Warangal Rural district who returned from his hometown in Kerala on March 18, has been admitted to the isolation ward in the MGM Hospital on Friday night.

Initial lab reports suggest that the pastor didn't have coronavirus symptoms, the doctors said. However, the pastor was told to undergo 14-day home isolation, it's learnt. The pastor went to his hometown in Kerala on March 1.
