Warangal: Government trying to usurp podu land, say Maoists

Update: 2019-11-28 22:42 IST

Warangal: Even as the disgruntled voices of Adivasi rent the air to get rights over podu land which they have been tilling for ages, the TRS government continues to ignore their plea, Maoists said in a letter purportedly released on Thursday.

In the letter, the CPI-Maoist secretary of the JMWP (Jayashankar, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Peddapally) Division Committee Venkatesh said that though the Adivasis have been in possession of podu lands for many years, the TRS government is refusing to recognise their rights. Instead, the government is resorting to hit the livelihood of tribal communities by damaging the crops in the name of planting saplings under its flagship programme Haritha Haram. This apart, the Adivasis are subjected to harassment in the hands of forest and police personnel.

Moreover, the TRS government which failed to fulfill its election promises has given a free hand to people's representatives, capitalists and landlords to rob the people. It's unfortunate to seed that people in Telangana who fought gallantly to achieve separate State, face umpteen problems even in its own rule, the banned outfit said.

The TRS leaders continue to rob the Adivasis by diluting the tribal protective Land Transfer Regulations 1 of 70 (LTR), the letter added.

The Maoists also said that since BJP retained power for the second successive time it has been promoting Brahminical Hindu fascist agenda. Against this backdrop, the onus is on youth to stem the rot by joining the CPI-Maoists, the letter said. The letter urged the people to join them in large numbers during the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Week that begins from December 2.
