Warangal: GWMC hopes hinge on Pattana Pragathi funds

Warangal: With the funds in sight, finally there seems to be a solution for the long-pending civic issues that have been a cause of worry for the denizens of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC).

Thanks to the Pattana Pragathi, the ambitious programme of the State government that ensures flow of funds to the fund-starved municipalities for their all-round development.

The authorities concerned, who identified core issues faced by the denizens of GWMC division-wise in the recently concluded 10-day Pattana Pragathi programme, prepared proposals and have submitted them to Municipal Commissioner Pamela Satpathy.

It may be mentioned here that under Pattana Pragathi, GWMC to get Rs 7.34 crore a month. With the government according sanctions for the release of Rs 14.68 crore (for February and March months), the administration appears to be in a tizzy to get approval from the government.

It's learnt that here was a danger of funds getting reversed to the government's coffers if the GWMC fails to ground the developmental works within the stipulated time. Against this backdrop, the administration prioritised a list of proposals that worth around Rs 510 crore. These works were categorised as major and minor.

With Rs 14.68 crore available in hand, the GWMC wants to take up developmental works worth around Rs 12 crore immediately. With the government assuring to release Rs 7.34 crore every month, the civic body wants to utilise a portion of it for the works that needed urgent attention and the other portion for addressing issues phase-wise.

GWMC officials said that majority of issues are related to basic amenities, especially roads and drainages. It's also learnt that officials had identified the necessity of laying above 100 kilometers of CC roads and 235 kilometers of drainage line.

The works also include construction of community halls, model markets, graveyards, development of junctions, street lighting etc.

According to the proposals, around Rs 180 crore have been earmarked for the developmental works in the 13 Divisions of the GWMC that come under the limits of Wardhannapet Constituency.

While the 19 Divisions spread across Warangal West Constituency to get a funding of Rs 146 crore, the 21 Divisions that come under the limits of Warangal East Constituency to get Rs 138 crore.

The four Divisions that falls in Parkal Constituency to get 40 crore for the developmental works. Rs 8 crore have been earmarked for the lone Division that comes under Station Ghanpur Constituency.

The proposals have to be approved by the MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao, it's learnt.
