Pasunuri Dayakar after winning election

Warangal: Pasunuri Dayakar of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) may have failed to eclipse his own record of 4.60 lakh majority, which he put up in 2015 by-election in the Lok Sabha elections, but his margin of victory is the chartbuster in Telangana State.

The majority of votes 3,50,298, he secured in the Warangal Lok Sabha election against the Congress candidate Dommati Sambaiah, is top among 17 Parliamentary constituencies in Telangana.

It may be recalled here that Pasunuri Dayakar had created a record of sorts in the 2015 by-election recording seventh highest majority in the history of Lok Sabha elections in the country. It was also the highest majority in the electoral history of Telangana.

On the other hand, the TRS continued its winning spree in Warangal (SC) Parliamentary Constituency defeating the Congress for the third consecutive time. The only consolation for the Congress was that it had managed to reduce the victory margin of the TRS compared to previous elections.

Pasunuri Dayakar, who won the 2015 by-poll of Warangal Lok Sabha constituency with a record majority of 4.60 lakh against his nearest rival Sarvey Satyanarayana of the Congress, had to content with 3.50 lakh margin this time around. In 2014 general elections, Kadiyam Srihari trounced Congress' Sircilla Rajaiah with a majority of 3.92 lakh.

The truncated majority is seen as a sort of disappointment for the TRS leadership which targeted more than five lakh margin in all the Lok Sabha constituencies, especially in Warangal owing to its marvellous record in two previous outings. It may be mentioned here that TRS leadership entrusted Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao with the responsibility of securing huge majority in both the Warangal and Mahabubabad Lok Sabha constituencies.

Errabelli, who shouldered the responsibility, campaigned extensively in all the Assembly segments of Warangal Parliamentary Constituency. The TRS MLAs, who were aspiring to be ministers or expecting plum posts in the government, have also tried their best to ensure huge majority for Pasunuri Dayakar, however, it wasn't to be.

Much like the previous election, the TRS led right from the beginning of the counting till the end of last and final 24thround. While TRS was polled 6,12,498 votes, the Congress had managed to secure 2,62,200. The BJP candidate Chintha Sambamurthy finished third with 83,777. The notable development was NOTA (none of the above) securing the fifth place with 18,801 votes. The total votes polled was 10,61,645.

Speaking to The Hans India, Pasunuri Dayakar said: "I thank the people for reposing their faith in me. I am here because of KCR, otherwise i would have remained as a normal party worker and an artist. Even though the margin of win is somewhat decreased I have no qualms about it. I will work for the development of Warangal by pursuing the Central Government for funds."
