Warangal: NITW student on coronavirus suspect list
Warangal: A student of National Institute of Technology, Warangal, (NITW), who is suspected to have contracted coronavirus (Covid-19), has been placed in the special isolation ward recently set up in the MGM Hospital here on Thursday.
Speaking to The Hans India, MGM Hospital Superintendent B Srinivas Rao said: "We have admitted the student to the isolation ward. The student has arrived at the hospital with symptoms of Covid-19."
A team of doctors are looking after the condition of the student. After consulting the Director of the Health Department, a decision will be taken whether to continue him in the isolation ward or to shift him to Hyderabad, Dr Rao said.
Meanwhile, NITW Registrar S Goverdhan Rao said the research scholar has returned from USA on March 1, after attending a conference.
The student went to his native place in Kurnool before arriving at the campus on March 8. He was staying outside the campus since he returned from US, the Registrar added.
The student was initially admitted to a private hospital on March 10, after he started to suffer from cold, cough, and fever.
The private hospital authorities have intimated the details of the case to the DM&HO. Following which the student was shifted to the special ward in the MGM hospital on Thursday afternoon, he said.
The Registrar said that the NITW administration has taken all precautionary measures for the health checkup of the students.
He said that they have alerted all faculty, staff and students to take preventive measures in view of the spread of Covid-19.
