Warangal: The School of Distance Learning and Continuing Education (SDLCE), Kakatiya University (KU), campus was abuzz with a large number of students on Monday. The students enthusiastically took part in the Haritha Haram programme, a flagship programme of the State government to increase the forest cover in the State to 33 per cent. Leading them was SDLCE Director Prof Guguloth Veeranna.

The onus is on everyone to conserve the environment, Prof Veeranna said. He emphasised on citizen science and said that citizen science is a powerful tool for environmental management. He said the concept is to involve as many citizens as possible to promote research and scientific understanding about the environment.

He said the role of students is massive in the plantation drive as they are capable of doing it by themselves and influencing the others. "With the involvement of students and staff, the Haritha Haram and Swachh Bharat programme will go on around the SDLCE campus for the next one week," Prof Veeranna said. He stated that KU Registrar Prof K Purushotham will also participate in the drive on Tuesday (September 24).

KU Development Officer Prof Valluri Ramachandram, course coordinators Dr Kotte Bhaskar, Dr S Bikshapathi, Bandi Venkateshwarlu, SDLCE Media in-charge Dr Sangala Ephraim Raj and students were among others present.
