Warangal: Streams, water bodies in full flow

Warangal: After the none-too-impressive rainfall this monsoon, most of water bodies in erstwhile Warangal district have come to life with almost all the streams overflowing due to incessant rains for the last few days.

With its catchment areas receiving substantial rain, Godavari River is in on the rise. At 7 pm on Friday, the water level in Godavari reached 7.60 meters at Ramannagudem Pushkar Ghat near Eturnagaram in Mulugu.

According to reports, the water level is to go up one centimetre an hour. The district administration will issue the first warning when the water level reaches 8.5 meters. It may be noted here that water level for the second warning is 9.90 meters and 11 meters for the third and final warning. With Cheekupally stream in Wajedu is in spate, the forest department closed entry to Bogatha waterfalls to avoid any untoward incident. The officials appealed to tourists not to turn to waterfalls until it calms down.

Meanwhile, Moranchavagu, Jeedivagu and other streams in Jayashankar-Bhupalpally and Mulugu districts are in full flow. The Jampannavagu near Sammakka Saralamma temple at Medaram is also in full swing. Road links to several Agency villages have remained cut off with overflowing of local streams. Power outage is also reported in remote villages.

The water level in Godavari at Kaleshwaram is currently 8.1 metres. The authorities allowed waters downstream by lifting 65 gates at the Medigadda barrage. The water level in Annaram barrage is also nearing its full capacity. The pump houses have stopped pumping water.

Meanwhile, continuous rains affected coal production in open cast mining of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). The SCCL has reportedly incurred Rs 10 crore loss due to the closure of mines for the last one week.

In Warangal city, several roads were inundated due to overflowing of drainages. The fire department personnel were pressed into service to pump out rainwater that choked the Mulugu Road junction.
