Warangal: With bars closed, Bacchus lovers back to Car-O-Bar

Update: 2020-03-17 22:53 IST

Warangal: Car-O-Bar, the term often used by the boozers, is back colloquially. Thanks to the shutdown of the bars and the dugouts attached to the wine shops caused by the looming threat of coronavirus outbreak.

For the last three days, the evenings have become restless for the guzzlers, who used to relax sipping a beer or whisky in the upscale bar & restaurants to middleclass permit rooms, as they now have to search for a place where they can relish a drink or two without much fuss.

Finding it difficult to quench their thirst in the backdrop of closure of bars, the boozers have now started searching for safe places where they can chill.

"With the summer is also picking up, the number of beer lovers is also on the rise. The time and place have become premium for the customers. Some of them are gulping in a hurry besides the liquor shops under the cover of darkness," says a liquor trader in Warangal.

Here comes the car option to fore, again. Guzzling in cars is not a new phenomenon. It's been there for a long time; however, it's an option the boozers would like to prefer it especially when they are on the travel. But now desperate to find a place, those who have cars were driving down the outskirts or a far-off places where there would be no buzz to make a quiet bash.

"Finding a comfortable place where we can down a drink in solace is not all that easy. Those who have bachelor friends are lucky ones these days. But I don't think it may not be possible on day-to-day basis until the shutdown was lifted," Srikanth Reddy (name changed) told The Hans India.

In fact, the car-o-bar is easy and cost-effective compared to what we pay in the bars. Even the untidy dugouts attached to liquor stores are fleecing anywhere Rs 30 to Rs 40 on each beer, he added.

"Fetch some snacks along with liquor and settle at a serene location, tune in some music on your car stereo and to the comfort of car AC, it's a fun indeed," Raj, software professional, said.
