Peddapalli: Water is the most important source of life and it is the responsibility of everyone to conserve water, stated District Collector Sri Devasena. She along with MLA Dasari Manohar Reddy inaugurated Jal Samrakashan-Jan Andolan rally from Government Junior College to the Collectorate in Peddapalli on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Collector Devasena said Peddapalli district got recognition at national-level and won two awards in creating awareness among the students and their parents and other people in constructing Individual Sanitary Latrines (ISLs). With the same spirit, the people must conserve water sources, which are receding faster across the world.

She reminded the water woes in the neighbouring State of Tamil Nadu, where the government is supplying water through trains. By this one can understand how much serious water problem in that area. About 80 per cent of depletion of groundwater lever occurred in the recent times. The government is striving hard to overcome water scarcity and is taking all necessary steps, she assured. 'People also must support the government in conserving water. They must harvest every drop of rainwater along with maintaining ecological balance by increasing green cover under Haritha Haram programme and by constructing soaking pits in the front yards of their houses, the Collector advised.

Peddapalli MLA Dasari Manohar Reddy said that people must use water judicially without wasting. The district administration is encouraging the farmers to construct farm ponds to increase groundwater levels and enable farming activity. The farmers must participate in that process and must support the officials, he suggested.

Without water, people cannot survive. Till morning to night all the works of every person depend on water. If there is no water, no life. Parents, teachers and officials must create awareness among children, students and people about judicial use of water and conservation of water resources, he added.

In-charge DRO K Narasimha Murthy, DCP Sudarshan Goud, DEO Jagan Mohan Reddy, National Greencore Project Officer Vidhya Sagar, District Coordinator B Ravinandan Rao, MEO T Surendra Kumar were present along with others.
