Hyderabad/ Khammam/ Nalgonda: The continuous rains in Telangana and Maharashtra seem to have augured well for the state as Godavari and Krishna are getting huge inflows.

According to official sources, Godavari has been overflowing at number of locations and first level warning has been sounded at Bhadrachalam.

The water level at Kaleshwaram and various barrages along the river course are brimming with water as the water levels have been constantly rising.

As the dams in Karnataka are full and water is being released into Narayanpur and Almatti, the irrigation authorities have decided to release the inflows downstream into the Jurala project.

Water is also being released further downstream into Srisailam dam by lifting all the 21 crest gates. As a result, the power utilities are ready to generate more than 400 MW of hydel power.

Officials at Srisailam said that water level has been rapidly rising as it has been receiving two lakh cusecs of water has been discharged from dams and the water level has risen by nearly 40 feet from 804 to 844 feet as against the full reservoir level of 885 feet.

Once the dam gets filled up, and if it continues to get fresh inflows, the pump units at Srisailam will enable both the States to harness power from its hydel plants. Srisailam along with Nagarjunasagar are considered lifelines for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

If the inflow continues, water would be let out into Nagarjunasagar. The water level at Nagarjunasagar at present is at 507 feet against full reservoir level of 590 feet.
