Withdraw false cases against scribes, TUWJ demands

Asifabad: Condemning registration of false cases against nine journalists, who reported about the transportation of EVMs in a private vehicle in Jagtial town on Monday night, leaders of district Telangana State Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ) IJU, staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate in Asifabad on Thursday.

District TUWJ leaders led by its president Abdul Rahman, secretary Sampath Kumar and others participated in the dharna and flayed the district authorities for registering criminal cases. They said arresting scribes is an attempt to throttle the voice of media and free speech and against constitution. They said all journalists should come on a single platform to condemn the police action or else such incidents will continue. Journalist's union leaders submitted a memorandum to Joint Collector Rambabu and urged him to withdraw the false cases, registered against the scribe.
