Woman casts vote even as husband lies dead at home
Mahbubnagar: A woman, who had lost her husband on Thursday night, cast her vote in spite of her husband's body lying at home, on Friday.
According to sources, Uma and Srinivas, earning livelihood in Hyderabad, came to their village Perur on Thursday. But unfortunately, as soon as they reached Perur, Srinivas, the husband of the woman, fell severely ill and was shifted to Mahbubnagar General Hospital for treatment.
While undergoing treatment, Srinivas breathed his last on Thursday night and his dead body was shifted to Perur. However, as the second phase of Parishad elections began in Perur early in the morning, Uma took courage to cast her vote even while her husband's dead body was lying at her home.
Speaking to the media Uma said, "We both had come all the way from Hyderabad to cast the vote. But unfortunately, my husband died due to illness. But I wanted to ensure that my husband's desire to cast vote is fulfilled so that his soul rests in peace."
Meanwhile, the villagers and the officials appreciated her spirit and courage. "Not many will take such a decision. The couple seems to be dedicated towards elections and it shows how serious they are about utilising their voting rights," observed an election official, while commending the decision of the woman.
