Zilla Parishad School gets a facelift

Isnapur: In what can be termed as a turnaround, the Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) at Isnapur, which was not so long ago a reeky government school, is today a sparkling one, bereft of the trappings of a 'sarkar' school. Thanks to Rural Organisation for Social Empowerment (ROSE), started by Seshaiah Veeragandham and Robert Fellner-Feldegg, a German in 2011, the school has got a new lease of life.

ROSE provides books, benches and necessary equipment for the school. Locals say since ROSE adopted the school, the facilities improved by leaps.

Whitewashing, carpentry, masonry and plumbing works were taken about to improve the infrastructure. Equipment for sports was provided, along with the establishment of a new playground for the students.

The school today is a model for other schools to conduct sports competitions and other events in their infrastructure. The school also has a well-equipped science lab with microscopes and demonstrative models. There is also a computer lab with more than 20 systems with licensed software.

The Vocational Training Centre was established on April 4 this year. Girls are trained in tailoring. It was started with a view to provide the girl students required skills of cutting and stitching, which will help them become self employed if situations turn out otherwise.

Spandana Chowdhary, the school head master, said that the strength increased by 200 and that there is a new found confidence among people. Eswari, the trained tailoring teacher says she is overwhelmed by the response and enthusiasm. YV Rao, president at ROSE, said that this is just the beginning and there is still a lot to do.
