ZPTC, MPTC polls go off peacefully
Karimnagar: The second phase of elections to Zilla and Mandal Parishad were held on a smooth note here in the united Karimnagar district.
Elections were held for 23 ZPTC and 270 MPTC seats in the second phase excluding one ZPTC and seven MPTC seats which were won by TRS unanimously.
Polling started at 7 am in the morning and ended by 5 pm in the evening. In Karimnagar district, 65.51 percentage of polling was recorded in the second phase of ZP polls held in eight mandals of Chigurumamidi, Choppadandi, Gangadhara, Ganneruvaram, Karimangar Rural, Kothapalli, Ramadugu and Thimmapur.
Where as in Peddapalli district, 69.92 percentage of polling was recorded in the second phase of elections held in six mandals-- Eligaid, Julapalli, Odela, Peddapalli, Srirampur and Sultanabad.
However, in Odela mandal of Peddapalli district, the villagers boycotted voting process demanding to lay road from Kangarti to Odela. They staged dharna alleging that even after several appeals made by them to the concern public representatives on number of occasions; they did not take initiation till date. They declared that they were not going to vote until the assurance was given to them about laying of road to their village.
In Rajanna Siricilla district, the polling was held in three mandals of Thungalapalli, Ellanthakunta and Boinapalli with 69.61 percentage of polling record in the second phase.
In Jagtial district, polling was held in six mandals of Korutla, Mediaplli, Kathalapur, Metpalli, Ibrahimpatnam and Mallapur in the second phase in which 67.75 percentage of polling was recorded. It is to be noted that the elections were being held only for five ZPTC seats as Korutla ZPTC has won by TRS unanimously along with five MPTC is various mandals.
Meanwhile, the police officials made tight security arrangements at the polling stations deploying sufficient number of police personnel at every polling stations to prevent untoward incidents and to see the polling was held in a peaceful atmosphere.
