Hyderabad: A delegation of opposition parties leaders led by TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday met State Election Commission Commissioner V Nagi Reddy and submitted a representation on various issues relating to MPTC and ZPTC, MPP and ZP chairperson's elections.

The delegation comprised of Congress leaders Shabbir Ali, Marri Shashidhar Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Jetti Kusuma Kumar, Kodanda Reddy, Niranjan, TDP State unit president L Ramana, CPI leader Palla Venkat Reddy and Telangana Jana Samithi leader P L Visweswar Rao.

In the representation, the opposition leaders told the Commissioner that long gap between the MPTC and ZPTC elections, declaration of results, and election of MPPs and ZPs chairpersons would lead to horse-trading and corrupt practices in the State.

They said that huge gap was not desirable in a democracy. They urged the Commission to postpone the counting of MPTC and ZPTC votes till the last week of June 2019 or the first week of July and schedule the MPP and ZP chairperson's elections three days after the declaration of the results of the local body elections.

They said that the newly elected MPPs and ZP chairpersons could take charge before the expiry of the term of the present chairpersons and presidents or on the due date of their term.

They told the Commissioner that they submitted the representation after observing the horse trading done by ruling TRS party in its first term of five years.
