Vijayawada: After a log gap of seven years, the Excise officials have a reason to be jubilant. Many officials who have been in despair that they would never get promotions, received a pleasant surprise, when Excise and Prohibition Commissioner Mukesh Kumar Meena gave a green signal to their promotions on Friday.

As many as 44 Excise circle inspectors will be promoted as Excise additional superintendents. The file after completing all the formalities in spite of the election code has reached the screening committee through Special Chief Secretary of Revenue Sambasiva Rao. The screening committee comprises the Chief Secretary, secretary concerned and secretary of the GAD as members.

The members of the Andhra Pradesh Prohibition and Excise Officers Association met the Excise Commissioner Mukesh Kumar Meena on Friday and thanked him for taking the

initiative. Association president Narasimhulu and secretary Venkataramana said that the Excise Commissioner has taken initiative to solve the pending issue for the last several years.

The last time circle inspectors were promoted as additional superintendents was in 2012.

Following the promotions to the circle inspectors and the existing vacancies, about 84 sub-inspectors would also be promoted as circle inspectors. Subsequently, the head constables would be promoted as sub-inspectors and the constables would become head constables. It is expected that after the officers were promoted the performance of the Excise department would improve further.

At present, 25 CIs from Multizone I, and 19 from Multizone II would be promoted as additional superintendents. Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Krishna and both Godavari districts are in the Multizone I, while Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool and Anantapur districts form the Multizone II. In fact, the seniority list was prepared in 2014, but no such lists were prepared subsequently.
