6.16 lakh students to be tested for eye ailments: Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao
Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao said every student will be covered under YSR Kanti Velugu programme and the YSRC government was keen on fulfilling its all poll promises given to people of the state.

Launching the programme at at the Zilla Parishad High School, Gajuwaka, the Minister said a sports stadium and facilities worth Rs 800 crore will be developed at Aganampudi.
Speaking on the occasion, VMRDA Chairman Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao said the Kanti Velugu scheme was taken up by the government at a cost of Rs.560 crore. The programme was attended by GVMC Commissioner G. Srijana, District Medical Health and Officer S Tirupathi Rao, MLA Tippala Nagi Reddy among others.
Meanwhile Joint Collector L Shiva Shankar said on Thursday 6.16 lakh students will undergo the eye screening tests under the YSR Kanti Velugu programme, a statewide initiative launched on the World Sight Day.
Students studying up to Class X will be periodically checked for eye ailments and treated accordingly through multiple interventions. Launching the programme, the Joint Collector instructed the officials to allot specific time for every student of class to undergo test so that their class hours will not be disturbed.
He said the registers will be properly maintained to ensure all the students across the district undergo tests and the registers will be maintained on a permanent basis. District Medical and Health Officer S Tirupathi Rao said the eye screening for 6.16 lakh students from 5,268 private and government schools will continue till October 16 and added 146 medical officers, 850 teams from 117 hospitals and primary health centres will be involved in the initiative.
He also stated that teachers were provided training to conduct primary eye screening for the students along with the medical staff and appealed to parents to utilise the opportunity facilitated for their wards. Officials from the education department took part in the programme.
