Visakhapatnam: As many as 70 members participated in the silent rally on 'Save the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles' which was held here on Sunday on the Beach Road. The rally was organised by Visakha Society for Protection and Care of Animals (VSPCA) with the support of NTPC-Simhadri and GITAM School of Gandhian Studies (GSGS).

The aim of the rally is to create awareness to people on Olive Ridleys which have their nesting on the coast of Visakhapatnam. With the increased beach pollution, alteration of sea shores, sand mining, beach tourism and construction, the Olive Ridleys which come ashore during January-April, find it difficult to lay eggs on the sea coast.

"With the constant efforts of AP Forest Department, VSPCA and NTPC, the Olive Ridleys are being conserved to a large extent but citizens need to step up to save these marine creatures," said B Praveen Kumar, a student of GSGS, who took part in the rally.
