The civic body polls conducted in 4 municipal towns of the district on Wednesday registered 71.06 per cent up to 5 pm. Naidupet recorded the highest of 76.97 per cent, Atmakur with 76.65 pc, Venkatagiri with 70.70 pc and Sullurpet with the least percentage of 63.80

Nellore: The civic body polls conducted in 4 municipal towns of the district on Wednesday registered 71.06 per cent up to 5 pm. Naidupet recorded the highest of 76.97 per cent, Atmakur with 76.65 pc, Venkatagiri with 70.70 pc and Sullurpet with the least percentage of 63.80. Out of 76,219 voters, 54,163 voters exercised their franchise.

Polling commenced in all polling stations at 7 am and the process has been peaceful without any untoward incidents. District Collector K V N Chakradhar Babu visited some polling stations in Atmakur municipal limits for witnessing polling process and interacted with voters on the arrangements for the polling and amenities. He also said they had taken up a special campaign in all municipal towns where polls are being conducted for enhancing the voting percentage.

He said the polling was completed peacefully in all 87 polling stations. He said they had directed the polling and police personnel to allow physically challenged persons and the elderly to enter the booths freely, without waiting in queue lines due to summer. More than 2,300 police personnel were deployed for conducting the polls smoothly.

Buttermilk and drinking water were also supplied to the voters at polling stations. Volunteers from the Indian Red Cross Society were also deputed for supporting the needy persons. He said they had also arranged thermal scanners, first aid centres and a helpdesk for assisting the voters. Joint Collector Dr M N Harendira Prasad, RDO Suvarnamma, and others accompanied the Collector.
