The nine-day annual Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala took off on a colourful note on Monday evening.

The divine flag hoisting fete 'Dhwajarohanam' marking the commencement of annual Brahmotsavams at Tirumala temple was performed in the anointed auspicious Meena Lagnam between 5.23 pm and 6 pm on Monday amidst chanting of hymns from scriptures by Vedic Pundits and temple priests enhancing the spiritual ambiance at the shrine.
Sitaramachari acted as Kankanabhattar for the fete and will be doing all the other Vaidika programmes during the Brahmotsavams in the same capacity along with a team of TTD priests under the guidance of the religious heads of the shrine Sri Pedda Jeeyangar and Sri Chinna Jeeyangar Swamijis.
The Dwjasthambham (flag post) and the entire area surrounding it in the temple were tastefully decorated with flowers of various hues while colorful illumination added more attraction captivating the eyes of the devotees. The temple complex wore a festive look with floral decorations and the colurful lighting.
Earlier, the celestial flag bearing the image of Garudalwar was taken in a procession along the Mada streets before the Dhwaja Patam was hoisted on temple Dhwajasthambham in the prescribed Muhurtam. Dwajarohanam was followed by Peddasesha Vahanam procession.
The processional deity of Malayappa Swamy flanked by His two consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi was taken out in a procession in the Mada streets providing a feast to the eyes of the devotees who turned out in large numbers to witness the colourful event.
The TTD has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Brahmotsavams during which the processional deity Sri Malayappa will betaken out in processions daily atop various Vahanams in the morning and evening.
