Amaravati: Minister for Energy Balineni Srinivas Reddy said the nine hours day time free power supply would benefit 18.15 lakh farmers for which the government allocated Rs 4,525 crore.

The Minister held a review meeting with officials on Sunday. He said Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had directed the Energy Department to implement the free power supply strictly.

On this occasion, the Minister said that free power to irrigation pumps could enhance farm production and empower the farming community in the State. Similarly, aqua farmers would get power at

Rs 1.50 per unit which benefits 53,649 families.

The government has been implementing the ambitious scheme of nine hours daytime free power to agriculture, free power to SC, ST families and power to aqua farmers at cheaper price.

He said that the government laid special focus on implementation of welfare programmes and moots a special mechanism at the division, district and discoms level to ensure 100 per cent success of the three prestigious welfare schemes in the power sector in coordination with agriculture, social welfare and fisheries departments.

The Minister said that the Chief Minister is determined to turn the AP power sector into a growth engine which would definitely boost the overall development of the State.

Energy Secretary Srikanth Nagulpalli said the government is strongly determined to ensure quality power supply to 1.8 crore consumers in AP.
