Kurnool: With the demand to set up High Court in Kurnool district, the advocates of Kurnool District Bar Association (KDBA) staged road blockade here on Tuesday. A large number of advocates supported by various students and youth organisations besides and non-government organisations participated at the road blockade at Krishna Nagar ITC Company. The police were deployed in large number at the venue.

The advocates and others squatted on the road and raised slogans demanding setting up of High Court in the district. After an hour, the police intervened and asked the agitators to leave the place as large number of vehicles were stranded to some kms on either side of the road NH-44 which connects Hyderabad, Bangalore,Chennai and Kerala on the southern side and Bombay and other states on the northern part. Mild scuffle took place between police and advocates at the time.

KDBA General Secretary Gopala Krishna said to media persons that it is the right of the people of Kurnool district to seek High Court. The government should implement Sri Bagh Pact. Though they are protesting for one-and-half months, the government is neither giving assurance nor making any statement, he said.

"The previous government has announced bench to Kurnool, but we don't need bench. We want High Court to be set up in Kurnool. If the government did not respond positively, then the agitation will be intensified," Gopala Krishna said.

Later, the advocates took out a rally and reached the hunger strike camp at Sri Krishna Devaraya Circle in the city. Similarly the advocates at Nandyal and Adoni divisions also took to road blockades.

Kurnool Bar Association president Umar Javeed Ali, High Court Sadana Karyacharana Samithi chief Nagalakshmi Devi, Bandari Chandrudu, private schools managements, Indian Lawyers Association district general secretary Srinivasulu, Rayalaseema students JAC convener B Sriramulu, Praja Parirakshana Samithi founder K Balaram and others participated in the protest.
