Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy appealed to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday to help in bringing back thousands of migrant Telugu workers stuck in Middle East due to lack of money to pay for their tickets.
Referring to the 2,500 Telugu workers stuck in Kuwait out of 10,000 who were in no position to pay for their return fare though they had been issued Exit Clearances by Indian Embassy by waiving of immigration fines. On the other hand, the Kuwait government was ready to bear their travel costs. Presently these people were housed in shelters by the local authorities with hardly basic facilities.
In a letter to Jaishankar, the Chief Minister urged him to instruct the Kuwait High Commission to work in tandem with Kuwait authorities to arrange flights for the Telugu workers to reach their destinations like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati. Jagan Mohan Reddy said AP was fully geared up to receive them and provide quarantine facilities to all of them in every district headquarters.
He said the State was ready to receive people from all over Middle East in fact and the Centre should cooperate in sending the Telugus back to AP.
