Amaravati: The YSRCP government enhanced the group insurance scheme for police after 20 years.

In a review meeting at his residence in Tadepalli on Wednesday, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy decided to increase the group insurance amount for constables from Rs 13 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, for sub-inspectors and inspectors, to Rs 35 lakh and for deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and higher cadre officials, the amount was increased to Rs 45 lakh.

The state has paid Rs 4.74 crore towards premium to insurance company. The amount to be paid in case of unnatural deaths, including accidental deaths, was increased to Rs 30 lakh, and it would Rs 40 lakh for deaths in terrorist attacks. As many as 64,719 police personnel will be covered under the scheme.

Home minister Mekathoti Sucharitha, DGP D Gautam Sawang and additional DG Ravishankar Ayyannar and the insurance company officials were also present at the review meeting.

The Police Officers' Association thanked the Chief Minister for the government's interest in the welfare of police families. Moreover, they said the weekly-off for the police has brought happiness for 64,000 police families and accident insurance policy, police group insurance have strengthened their commitment towards their duties.
