Anantapur: District Collector Gandham Chandrudu has stepped up pressure on the parents' committees of government schools to complete all renovation, modernisation and infrastructure works by the end of July 2020.

He has been making random visits to the government school buildings under renovation in different mandals and interacting with parents' committees and ensuring that works get completed before the end of the month.

When schools reopen in August, children will be proud to enter their class rooms with furniture and colourful walls.

The people of Marthadu village in Garladinne mandal say that the children are enthusiastic to see their school beautified right before their eyes.

Collector Gandham Chandrudu said to 'The Hans India' that parents committees have been formed to give a sense of ownership of the schools to the local people. Funds had been credited into the accounts of the parents' committees for undertaking the infrastructure development works. Works are going on full swing in nearly 4,000 government schools in the district.

District Education Officer Samuel said that pucca rooms, benches, fans and lighting, latrines, water supply, staff rooms for teachers, dining hall and compound walls will be developed besides taking up tree plantation. Fifty per cent of schools do not have benches for students to sit. A survey revealed that only 87 schools have benches facility for students. It was identified that 775 schools do not have water facility and 751 schools do not have proper buildings. Many of them are in a dilapidated state. This scenario is soon going to change, Samuel adds.
