Andhra govt postpones payment of electricity bills till June 30 amid criticism from public

CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken a crucial decision on electricity bills in Andhra Pradesh. The government has reportedly ordered the Distribution companies to postpone payments of electricity bills till June 30. The decision was taken after being criticised for charging the high amount on power. Going by the details, a mod coronavirus outbreak in the state, the power companies have not issued the bill and asked them to pay two months bill at once. As the units consumed was exceeded 500 units, the tariff has increased leading to surge in the current bills. Hence the consumers have revolted at the government.

Due to the lockdown, people were restricted to the house, and as the sun grew darker, the power consumption increased. A customer from Tirupati got 531 units in the month of March and April. According to those units, the tariff was turned over and got a bill of Rs 2,542. The average electricity consumption in February was Rs. 450. In Anantapur also a consumer has got a bill of Rs 2,522. The reading for March and April is over 500 units. As a result, the people started criticized the government as the tariff was changed and charged Rs.995 per unit.

The government has assured the public that the bill be calculated for monthly despite it occurred for sixty days. Therefore, the government has asked the officials not to collect the bill and extra charges for next 45 days till June 30.
