Four-year degree courses in Andhra Pradesh: Andhra Pradesh State govt issues order in this regard

Amaravati: The State government issued an order here on Tuesday giving permission to the State-funded universities for introduction of four-year Honours programmes with 10 months of mandatory internship and with an exit option at the end of the third year.

The students who opt to exit after three years will be awarded an undergraduate degree of BA/B.Sc/B.Com etc., and students who complete a four years degree programme with a rigorous research project in the major area(s) of study will be awarded an Honours degree. This is in line with the Centre's recently announced New Education Policy (NEP).

It may be recalled that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy held a review meeting on education with all functionaries on August 6, 2020 which has decided to start a four-year Honours programme from the academic year 2020-21 with an option to exit after three years.

In view of the introduction of the four-year Honours programmes, all three-year Honours courses are withdrawn from 2020-21, the GO said.

The universities in the State are requested to adopt the orders issued by the government with the approval of their respective statutory boards in all the university colleges and its affiliated colleges under their jurisdiction from the academic year 2020-21.

The Secretary of the AP State Council of Higher Education, the Special Commissioner of Collegiate Education and the Registrars of the State Universities shall take further action in the matter accordingly.
