Amaravati: The year 2020 distanced people by 'touch-me-not policy' with the spread of corona virus and ruining the economy of the state government and the people.

In the backdrop of reports of a new strain of Covid-19 found in the UK and possible second wave, the State, which has been taking all measures to counter it, has braced up the official machinery for the dry run, distribution and storage of Covid vaccine as per the Central guidelines.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took quick and effective measures to meet the challenges posed by pandemic. The State made rapid strides in developing infrastructure and facilities in controlling the pandemic by widening the network and pressing into the service the Village Secretariat system and closely monitoring the situation on a daily basis to get encouraging results as the State stood first in the number of tests per million in the country and its recovery rate was higher and mortality rate lower than that of the national average.

The data as on December 25 states that about 1.15 crore tests were conducted, covering nearly 20 per cent of the State population standing first in the country. About 8.8 lakh were infected with an average positivity rate of 7.64 per cent, the death rate logged was just 0.81 per cent much lower than the national average.
