The low pressure area appeared in the Bay of Bengal has said to be gradually strengthening into depression and is heading to transform into cyclonic storm Amphan. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted that there could be a severe storm Amphan on Sunday evening. It (meteorological department) has warned that it was moving towards northwest at a speed of about 6 km per hour from Sunday morning.

According to IMD, the winds were ravaged by the devastation of the cyclone on Saturday. The power supply was stalled. Thunderbolts were also struck in several places. Amravati Meteorological Center said there will be light to and moderate showers over the next two days in coastal Andhra Pradesh. The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), chaired by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gouba, met on the same issue on Saturday. Reviewing the Preparedness on the upcoming cyclone, the committee predicts that the sea will be stormy with heavy rain and strong winds.

The weather forecaster said that the cyclone would likely to move north-northwestwards initially till May 17 and then re-curve north-northeastwards across northwest Bay of Bengal towards West Bengal and adjoining Odisha coasts during May 18-20.
