Amaravati: Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney assured transportation of migrant workers, who have been walking thousands of kilometres to reach their destinations.
The migrant workers walking all the way from Chennai to Bihar, when she saw them and interacted on the National Highway at near Mangalagiri on Friday. She interacted with the migrant workers in their mother tongue and consoled them, before ordering the officials to provide shelter, food and transportation facility.
At that time, the Chief Secretary was coming from Tadepalli after attending a meeting with Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on the issue of migrant poor labour's walking along the highway.
She stopped her convoy and interacted with the migrants in their mother tongue. Poor migrants explained their sorry state of financial condition which forced them to walk all the way from Chennai to Bihar.
She ordered Joint Collector of Guntur district and District Collector of Krishna district to accommodate them in shelter camps and arrange food and water. She also instructed concerned officials to put them on the next trains to reach Bihar.
