The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday issued revised orders on implementation of the English medium in all government-run elementary and secondary schools in the state.

The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday issued revised orders on implementation of the English medium in all government-run elementary and secondary schools in the state. It has been decided to implement English medium from grade 1 to grade 6 in all schools apart from one Telugu medium school at each Mandal.

As per the order, the Telugu medium school will also be set up for children who want to pursue studies in Telugu medium and on the other hand Telugu subject has been mandated for Urdu, Oriya, Kannada and Tamil medium schools. The government has also decided to pay bus fare to students going to schools.

The Andhra Pradesh government led by chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy's decision to introduce the English as a medium of instruction in all government-run schools has got criticism from several quarters ever since the announcement. However, the Jagan Mohan Reddy government had gone ahead with its decision, issuing orders and making preparations.

As per the orders, the government has issued the powers to the Commissioner of School Education, Andhra Pradesh, to open parallel English Medium in existing high schools for classes VI to X wherever possible.
