Vasireddy Padma, the chairperson of the Commission said that the Power Walk was intended to advocate women's right to occupy public places as an unconditional and fundamental right, to normalise women's visibility in public places, to change society's perception and normalise women's and other minorities presence there, to scale up and reach out to a wider audience for women safety on the road sespecially as a right and to facilitate a progressive mindset change in the society.

Padma said that the women's commission has the mandate to safeguard the constitutional rights of women. She said that the society has absolutely no right to violate her physically, sexually and psychologically.

Power Walk is an initiative to bring gender awareness in the society against the social evils affecting the rights of women, she asserted. The power walk would commence at 6 in the evening on Sunday at the PWD Grounds and culminate in a meeting at Kshetraiah Kalakshetram, she said.
