Kakinada: Chintur Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Amit Bardar said that Andhra Pradesh police organised the 'Atmeeya Sammelan' in the interior tribal village of Chinturu sub-division, East Godavari district on Thursday. The villagers were encouraged to discuss their grievances.

The OSD said that Chinturu sub-division shares a meager 45 km but highly porous border with Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. The presence of Maoists across the border poses not only a huge security challenge but also a hindrance for developmental programmes by the government.

Amit Bardar said that Amadalapadu village is one such village at the border. The village has around 30 houses and the Gutthikoya people are the inhabitants of the village. With the persistent efforts of the Andhra Pradesh police, Maoist influence in this village has been substantially curtailed. To bring the Tribals of the area to the mainstream and to connect them with developmental activities, the Andhra Pradesh police organised 'Atmeeya Sammelan.

Like other villages in the district, the inhabitants of the village have also been encouraged to form various self-help groups to easily communicate with the government institutions. Bardar said that this will ensure an increased participation and a holistic development of the village. A medical camp was also organized.

Sport kits, books, blankets and clothes were distributed among the villagers and community lunch was also organised. SDPO Khada Basha, CI Yuva Kumar, SI Sureshbabu and others participated in the event.
