Chittoor: Rapist killer of 5year old girl sentenced to death

Chittoor: Keeping with recent trend in cases of heinous crimes against women post-Disha incident, Chittoor district additional judge Venkata Haranath awarded death sentence to the accused in rape and murder of a five-year-old girl, here on Monday.

The girl, a resident of B Kothakota mandal in the district, was raped and brutally murdered by Mohmed Rafi, 32, a habitual rapist belonging to the district on November-7, 2019. The body of the girl was found near a marriage hall at Angallu the same day. The Kurabalakota police registered a case and nabbed the accused in 17 days. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had asked the police to see that perpetrator was nabbed and brought to justice as soon as possible.

Speaking to press persons here, Madanapalli DSP Ravi Manohara Achari said that the accused was a lorry cleaner involved in multiple rape cases earlier. "Within 100 days of registering the case, the fast track court judge Venkata Haranath has given the verdict of death sentence to Md. Rafi, the accused. Additional public prosecutor Lokanath Reddy had put in extremely good efforts to ensure strict punishment to the culprit with fool-proof evidence. High Court has to take further step for executing the death sentence to the convict. However, the accused will appeal in the High Court on the conviction," he said.
