Amaravati: Suggesting some modifications regarding the proposals of integration of Godavari-Krishna rivers, the Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has sought details on the reduction of the cost and speeding up the work of the project. He held a review meeting with the Irrigation department on Monday at Camp Office at Tadepalli in Guntur district. The Chief Minister directed the officials to concentrate on the technology, and ways to meet the deadline.

On this occasion, several key issues on the budget estimations, R & R works of irrigation projects, integration of rivers Godavari-Krishna, elimination of drought in the Rayalaseema regions have been discussed by the top brass in the state.

The officials detailed the proposals of canal extension works, R & R works to the Chief Minister. They have also explained the proposals and plans of Godavari-Krishna rivers integration and the North Andhra Sujala Sravanthi respectively.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to go ahead to complete the canal extension works and the current irrigation projects under construction to eliminate drought in the Rayalaseema region. At the same time, he directed the officials to proceed with the works for North Andhra Sujala Sravanthi. For the same, the Chief Minister asked the officials to prepare a final plan related to the financial aspects. He also instructed the officials to prepare a plan for setting up a pipeline form Polavaram to Visakhapatnam. And directed the officials to concentrate on R and R works related to Polavaram, Veligonda, Chitravathi, and Gandikota projects.

It was estimated that about Rs 25,698 crore budget is estimated for completing these projects excluding the Polavaram project. About Rs 33,869 crore is estimated for the elimination of drought in the Rayalaseema program. And some Rs 15,488 crore is estimated for the North Andhra Sujala Sravanthi.

Minister for Water Resources Anil Kumar Yadav and Irrigation department officials were among those present at the review meeting.
