As the coal shortage is on the rise in Andhra Pradesh and due to the lack of coal reserves in the state, 1000 MW of power generation halted in 3rd and 4th units of Vishkha NTPC. Officials say the sudden fall in the production of coal is due to the recent rains and strikes. The supply of coal from Mahanandi and Singareni coal mines have come down.

Coal production is likely to start if the floods in the Mahanadi Coalfields diminish. With the latest developments, AP Genco's production capacity of 5000 MW reduced to 4000 MW.

Meanwhile, Jagan Mohan Reddy sought his Telangana counterpart chief minister KCR's help in supplying coal to Andhra Pradesh.
