Vijayawada: Dissatisfied with the poor sanitation conditions prevailed in and around the hostel, District Collector Md Imtiaz expressed ire over the officials of the BC welfare students hostel in Gunadala. In accordance with the directions from Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, Collector made a surprise visit to the hostel located on Gangireddula Dibba hill in Gunadala and verified the functioning of the hostel and conditions prevailed there.

Imtiaz questioned the officials on the poor sanitation conditions prevailed in the hostel and asked them whether they keep their children in such poor hygienic conditions at their homes.

He made it clear that it was the responsibility of the warden and the staff to keep the environment clean and to serve good and hygienic food to the students.

He tasted the food and expressed satisfaction over the quality of rice and curries. He asked the officials to follow the menu as per the directives of the BC Welfare Department and has warned he would not tolerate the negligence of the officials and the staff in the hostels. He also verified the attendance register. The Collector said Vijayawada is the capital of AP and many students from different parts of the state come to the hostel to join. He made it clear that the social welfare department officials must take responsibility and provide accommodation to the students without fail. Imtiaz spoke to some students and asked about the facilities provided and food served in the hostel.
