Vijayawada: District Collector Md Imtiaz said that blood donation is a holy thing which saves one's life and everyone should voluntarily come forward to donate blood. The Collector inaugurated a blood donation camp at Loyola College of Engineering and Technology here on Friday.

On the occasion, the Collector also donated blood and stood as an inspiration to everyone. Addressing the gathering, he said that blood is needed in many ways and its non-availability leads to deaths on many occasions. He said that students should develop a social responsibility and they should not be limited to their family and come forward to serve the public.

Collector also informed that one can donate blood once in three months. Blood donation would save life of patients at the time of their operations and donating blood regularly would generate fresh blood and keeps the person healthy and fit.

The Collector honoured regular blood donors P Murali Krishna, P Papa Rao, Mullapudi Ramakrishna, Dr VV Prabhakar Rao, N Venkateswara Rao, Alapati Pawan Kumar and Venkatesh and appreciated all the 150 students who donated blood on World Blood Donor Day.

DMHO Dr I Ramesh, Additional DMHO Dr Usha Rani, Andhra Loyola College director Dr A Francis Xavier, college principal Dr O Mahesh, programme coordinator P Kiran and others were present.
