Farmers stage rasta roko in solidarity with the agitating farmers in Delhi at Sunkaravari Thota Bridge in Eluru, bringing traffic to a halt

Eluru: Traffic came to a halt as farmers staged 'rasta roko' at Sunkaravari Thota Bridge here on Thursday, to express solidarity with the agitating farmers in the national capital demanding the Centre to scrap the new farm laws.

The agitators said that the new laws will lead to the dismantling of the minimum support price (MSP) system and leave farmers to the mercy of corporate houses.

The farmers under the auspices of AP Rythu Sangham took part in the agitation. Sangham secretary K Srinivas, CITU district secretary DNVD Prasad, Congress city president R Rammohanrao, CPM city secretary P Kishore, KVPS district president K Ravindra spoke on the occasion. The leaders alleged that the BJP government at the Centre is trying to suppress the agitation by using the brutal force.

The government is using police force to prevent farmers from expressing their constitutional right of registering protest in a democratic manner. By doing so, the Modi government is declaring a war on the farming community which is condemnable, they said.

They threatened the government to intensify agitation, if it failed to address the issues raised by the farmers by inviting them for talks.
